Wheel Life — telemetry, ride tracking, and community for electric unicycle riders.
This policy explains what information the Wheel Life app (“the app”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, how it is used, and the choices you have. It is written to match how the app actually behaves. Wheel Life is built around a simple principle: your riding data is yours, and it stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
This policy applies to the Wheel Life apps for iOS and Android, and to their shared backend service. The app is provided by Airik Strandberg, located in California, USA. If you have questions, contact us at wheellifeapp@gmail.com.
When you record a ride, the app saves the route, speed, distance, elevation, airtime, and per-second sensor telemetry from your wheel (voltage, current, temperature, battery, and similar) locally on your phone, in the platform's own on-device storage. This data is not transmitted to us. It powers your History, statistics, and exports, and remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
The community features are optional. Everything on the wheel side — connecting, live dashboard, alarms, ride recording, History, and exports — works without an account. If you choose to sign in, we collect and store, through our backend provider:
To improve and correct support for the many wheel models on the market, the app may send a small, anonymous sample of wheel telemetry — speed, voltage, temperature, and raw Bluetooth packets, along with the wheel model — at most once per wheel per day. This sample contains no location and no information identifying you or your account. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Data & Diagnostics → Share anonymous wheel data.
The app may collect anonymous crash and performance reports (via Apple’s MetricKit) to find and fix stability problems. These contain diagnostic information such as stack traces and resource usage, not your personal data.
With your permission, the app uses your device location to record your ride’s route and to power community features such as showing nearby riders (approximate) and territory. Your precise route is stored on your device; it is only shared when you choose to post a ride, and always with the privacy trim described above.
The app uses Bluetooth solely to connect to your electric unicycle and read its telemetry. Bluetooth is not used to track your location or to identify nearby devices for advertising.
If you enable notifications, your platform’s push service — Apple’s APNs on iOS, Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android — provides us a push token for your device so we can deliver community notifications (friend requests, messages, group-ride and club activity). The token identifies the device, not you, and carries no ride data. You can disable notifications in your device settings at any time.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
With other riders. If you use the community, other riders can see the information you choose to make visible — your display name, avatar, shared rides, leaderboard results, club membership, and messages you send them.
With service providers. We use trusted providers to run the app:
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and service.
Settings → Sharing & Privacy.Settings → Data & Diagnostics.Community → Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, shared rides, and group rides; rides stored on your device are unaffected. If you would rather we did it, contact us at wheellifeapp@gmail.com.On-device ride data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Community data is kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal community data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited information to comply with law or resolve disputes. Anonymous diagnostics, which are not linked to you, may be retained to improve the app.
Community data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access is protected by authentication and server-side access rules. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Wheel Life is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located in the United States. By using the app you consent to this processing. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing — contact us to exercise them.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
